Trust · Visibility · Communication · Authority

Build the authority people trust.

Matthew Oberly advises executives and founders—and the institutions they lead—through consequential moments. When expectations are high and scrutiny is rising, he helps leaders earn trust, communicate clearly, strengthen their reputations, and build authority.

The record

A career spent where decisions carry weight.

For more than fifteen years I have counseled founders stepping onto bigger stages, executives in moments they did not choose, and institutions with something worth defending. My work sits at the intersection of communication and public affairs: the story you tell, and the ground on which you tell it.

I founded Oberly Public Affairs to practice that work directly, confidentially, and with the principal in the room. Earlier, I founded Communicate on Purpose, where a conviction took shape that still guides me: clarity is a form of respect.

Applied AI

Working with applied AI since 2022.

Matthew began working with generative AI in 2022, during the Web3-era technology wave—before AI disclosure and machine visibility became everyday leadership concerns. That early vantage point now informs his counsel on trust, reputation, communication, and authority in AI-mediated environments.

How I work

A practice built on discipline.

I

Listen before speaking.

Every engagement begins with a confidential audit of the public record, the stakeholders who matter, and the gaps between what is said and understood. Strategy follows evidence.

II

Build for the long arc.

Headlines fade. I design communication that compounds trust across quarters and cycles, rather than chasing moments measured in days.

III

Be direct, and present.

You reach me—not an account ladder. My counsel is candid, in writing, and available when it is needed.
